Twitch Kills "Featured Clips" Function

Twitch removed a content-control function called Featured Clips that let creators curate their channel by only showing clips they wanted the public to see. Now, all clips on your channel are discoverable as soon as they're created.

You can still Feature Clips, but you can't limit your clips exclusively to Featured Clips. They have removed both "Clip Visibility" and "Feature This Clip" toggles from your Stream Settings.

Context:

When Twitch pivoted to developing the Temu TikTok Mobile App update, they wanted to introduce Clip Discovery into the scrolling feed. Understandably, creators don't necessarily want EVERY clip of their channel to be discoverable. Some of the best clips from a stream are community events, memes, or out-of-context jokes. Those clips don't necessarily land with an audience without additional context. So, Twitch gave creators control to Feature Clips. However, now with Twitch's AI Clip push, the platform clearly wants more content to be able to thrust into whatever algorithm they are working with - and as such, that control is being removed. It's also possible AI training requires more content that was previously not publicly visible.

My Thoughts:

A foolish choice by Twitch to spring this on creators without warning. On my own channel, the vast, vast, vast majority of the clips are spam clips with zero value. So, if I want to try and clean up the mess, I have to spend hours/days going through to curate all that. Maybe that's not a problem for small creators with minimal clips, or even large creators who get clipped hundreds of times per day and they don't care - but the mid-tier creator will assuredly have a lot of work on their plate if they want to better curate their Clips. I wish, for once, the executives at this company would think of creators before their KPIs.
