Twitch Chat Noise Reduction

Twitch Chat Noise Reduction

Twitch will soon launch some new moderation tools for creators called Chat Noise Reduction. This optional feature will let streamers limit certain chat types that may be seen as spammy. This includes:

  • A length limit on chat messages.
  • ASCII Art or messages filled with Symbols.
  • A limit on the percentage of messages that contain Capital Letters.
  • Someone posting the same message repeatedly.
  • Full-on language blocks.
  • Language script limits.

Context:

Twitch continues to invest in moderation while giving creators control over the experience they want in their own channel. Some people encourage spammy-style chats; others prefer a cleaner experience. Twitch has had some version of this with R9K mode, but most users likely have no idea it even exists.

My Thoughts:

Any additional controls are a net positive for creators. In the past, copypasta, ASCII art, and other chat spam helped make Twitch chats feel alive and unique. Trolling was part of a positive experience, and many channels encouraged it. Twitch in 2026 has lost a lot of that silliness, and the sentiment around it has shifted as a new class of creators prefers a more wholesome experience. As such, this update gives creators a few more tools to customize and build the chat experience they want. All for it.
