Twitch Content Labels, Discord Makes Subscriptions Better, AI Dubbed Audio on YouTube and Tfue is Retiring
Twitch launched multiple projects this week, and followed most of them with live streams from executives an hour later. That's a significant departure from the relative silence of launches in the past. While this new communication is often met with negative sentiment from the community, these are seeds planted today that could change perception in a couple years. We'll see.
Elsewhere in the streaming space, Discord is launching some impressive features for creators to monetize with, YouTube announced some projects slated for release in 2024, TikTok is encouraging subathons, and DrLupo launched a board game. But rather than spoil it all, let's get into the news!
Twitch News
- The Monetized Streamer Agreement was updated this week to clarify the content requirements of streamers. It also removed both references to the $25 maintenance and termination fees. A win for creators!
- Twitch launched new Content Classification Labels that streamers must apply for Sexual Themes, Gambling, Violence, Significant Profanity, Drugs, Intoxication, and Mature Games. Once applied, viewers will need to accept the content warnings in order to continue watching. Fortunately, only one time, per device, per label.
- Hype Chats launched for partnered streamers this week. The initial launch had some minor issues and bugs, but they appear to have been fixed. Hype Chats offer a 70-30 split after a 5% fee: effectively a 66.5% cut to creators.
- Affiliates and Partners have a new Creator Home page. The new dashboard offers major improvements and insight for at-a-glance actions/information. It may want to reconsider this.
- A new Leaderboard Bits/Subs Call to Action is being tested on half of all channels.
- Jake Lucky interviewed CEO Tom Clancy.
- Dan Clancy also appeared at Bloomberg's Technology Summit.
- Dualshockers asked streamers what they thought about Partner Plus.
- Nominations for Twitch Australia New Zealand Grassroots are now open. Grassroots winners will get two weeks of front page, transcoding, and social promotion.
