YouTube Cuts Clips, Snap Layoffs, Club, and IShowSpeed at Wrestlemania
Good Monday, and welcome to the 200th newsletter! Four years ago (almost to the day, April 24, 2022), I shared the first newsletter as conversational coverage about Twitch and the streaming space. While you can still see some similarities in format from back then, today's TOS newsletter (Today Off Stream, for those unaware) has certainly matured, with more value for creators and industry members! I don't know what it will look like in 2030, but I'm excited to continue working on it with your feedback informing those changes. Thank you all for reading, commenting, and sharing it with your fellow creators! But with that, let's get into what happened last week!
🟪 TWITCH
- An update to the Monetized Streamer Agreement (MSA) introduces new advertiser data sharing for monetized streamers on Twitch.
- Twitch updated the Terms of Service; here's my analysis of the changes.
- Twitch launched a new recruitment page to help fast-track large creators from other platforms to get Partner.
- A new experiment makes it easier to know you have a Prime Sub available and to use it in two clicks.
🟥 YOUTUBE
- YouTube is killing Clips to make Share at Timestamp universal. Later this year, they'll launch a clipping tool that lets creators find the best moments in their videos and easily post them to Shorts.
- YouTube is expanding Gifts to include Horizontal streams on mobile devices. It had previously been limited to vertical streams on mobile. They need alerts for creators streaming on Desktop.
- YouTube is making ads less intrusive on live streams, particularly during financial events or when chat activity is high.
- You can now, technically, turn off Shorts from appearing in the mobile app by setting your Shorts time to 0 minutes.
- YouTube is testing image posts in the Shorts feed.
⬛ TIKTOK
- TikTok partnered with Virgin Cruises for a three-day creator cruise.
🟦 OTHER STREAMERS
- Kick is adding a new Global Emote.
