Twitchcon 2025 Recap + Safety Struggles, Discord Frequent Friends and Moist's Millions

Hello and welcome to the weekly newsletter! Twitchcon 2025 has just wrapped up, and there's a LOT to talk about. So much so, that it warrants its own deeper dive over on my YouTube channel (videos throughout the week!) Twitch's official announcements were, for the second straight year, relatively mid, with them having previously announced most of their updates in the weeks and months prior.
Fortunately for those in attendance, Twitchcon is more about the people you meet and the positive experiences you have with them outside of the convention. So, for those of you who peeped my event list, I hope it was helpful and you had a great time! You'll find the same value in this weekly newsletter, so I hope you stick around!
We'll get into all the updates from the week, but one last ask... every Twitchcon I have a ONE QUESTION ANOMYMOUS survey that would be incredibly appreciative if you could quickly answer! Now, let's jump in!
🟪 TWITCH
- Twitch is working on an AI-supported "Auto Clips" tool that will generate clips of your stream after your stream ends, and also allow you to say "Clip That" to create clips. You can join the waitlist here.
- Twitch is launching an official Co-Streaming feature that allows co-streamer viewership to contribute to the Main Channel streaming the content. A nearly great feature, except it sounds like it will be gatekept for Brands + Large Creators. Watch my video explaining my concerns.
- A new Lead Mod role will be launching soon, with a Hammer badge.
- Emiru was assaulted at her Twitchcon Meet and Greet. Twitch released a statement, and Emiru responded, claiming that Twitch lied in their statement while refuting that the platform and event security did anything without her team prompting them to do so. She later went live to talk more about Twitch's failures and why she will not attend future Twitchcons.
- Dan Clancy spoke with Taylor Lorenz about the safety and security of the event.
- Twitch is launching livestream shopping ads with its first partner being Elf Cosmetics.
- Vertical Streaming is exiting Alpha testing and going into Beta testing. You can join the waitlist here.
- A Twitch x Meta partnership will soon allow you to stream from Meta's AI glasses. I'm sure that won't create even more annoying IRL interactions...
- Next year, Twitch will be less punishing depending on how you break the rules. So, for example, if you commit a low-severity offense on stream, you may temporarily lose access to streaming but you can still watch Twitch and chat. Severe violations will still restrict your access to the platform.
- Twitch is launching new Creator Clubs for Retro, Table Top, and Charity streamers. Apply to join here (tell them I sent you!)
- Twitchcon Merch Prices, the Community Gift, the Partner Gift, and the Official Floor Map.
- Gavin Newsom attended Twitchcon's "Purple Lounge," a place limited to Premium Partners.
- Twitch Drops are not progressing for some users: a known issue.
- Mashable: Why is Twitchcon so uniquely unsafe for streamers?
🟥 YOUTUBE
- YouTube is releasing Public-to-Members-Only livestreams to all monetizing creators.
- YouTube is rolling out the redesigned video player globally.
- Voice Replies are expanding to more creators.
⬛ TIKTOK
- TikTok is launching the LIVE Talent feature for music creators, offering exclusive gifts, music campaigns, and a profile badge for music streamers.
🟦 DISCORD & TWITTER X
- Discord is experimenting with a "Frequent Friends" indicator for the people you message most or spend the most time in voice channels with.
- Discord launched a Halloween-themed in-app icon and Nitro gifting promotion.
- Discord has a "do not interact with" list that includes Slasher, Quackity and others.
- TwitterX is experimenting with a new link experience (starting on iOS devices) that aims to address lower reach for posts with links.
🔲 OTHERS
- Kick now allows up to 500 Gift Subs at once.
- Meta is offering some users Verified for $12 for the first year.
