Hello! How many of you were confused about what day it was on Thursday when I sent out the "How to Download Highlights" email? While I'm glad many of you found it helpful, to be honest, I got a little click-happy, fell into my newsletter routine, and accidentally sent itβthe moment of regret.
In any case, there are some significant changes this week... so let's jump into the recap!
Platform Updates
πͺ TWITCH
- The Path to Partner Achievement now officially reflects that Raids count towards the 75 CCV needed (including the displayed calculation of Average Viewers.)
- Enforcement actions (suspensions) now expire over time. Low severity expires after 90 days, and high severity after 1 or 2 years. The system also introduces escalating consequences for repeat offenses. Is cheating in-game really a low-severity issue? Don't cheat in games!
- Twitch is introducing a 100-hour storage limit for Highlight and Upload content. Creators have until April 19th, 2025, to download their content before Twitch starts deleting it. More details.
- Multiple staff tell me this will allegedly save "several hundred thousand dollars" a year.
- If you plan to download all your Highlights, I shared a guide on how to do it!
- Twitch plans to offer sub-discount promotions multiple times this year (the first one listed below). Creators and Twitch split the discounted rate. Twitch has said they will allow creators to opt out of the discount promotion.
- From March 27 to 31, 5+ gift subs will be 35% off.
- Former Amazon (Prime Gaming) Executive Ethan Evans shared some details about Amazon/Twitch's effort to compete with Steam and why features like e-commerce sales on Twitch failed.
- There are new Twitch API endpoints and EventSub types for Channel Bits Use: emote_set_id, owner_id, and format.
- This Twitch email scam is going around; please don't be fooled. Other than some color choices and overly generous offers, it's pretty convincing.
- Twitchcon Rotterdam 2025 content/panel submissions have been confirmed.
π₯ YOUTUBE
- YouTube is planning to offer a lower price ad-free premium tier.
- It is now easier to pay to Promote your YouTube Shorts.
β¬ TIKTOK
- TikTok Shop is expanding to Italy, Germany, France, Japan, and Brazil this year.
- TikTok only lost 10% of its daily active users in the USA due to the ban.
βΉοΈ DISCORD
- Discord continues to invest in its Clips function.
- They also appear to be revamping Server Boosts and adding new Enhanced Role Colors and Server Tags.
π² OTHERS
- Kick finally launched its public API, which included Twitch's Terms and Conditions. It's just funny.
- Facebook announced that it will only store live streams for 30 days.
