Hello - and Happy Monday! I want to keep it short and sweet this week, so let's jump into the recap!
Platform Updates
πͺ TWITCH
- Twitch updated its Hateful Conduct policy around the word Zionism. You can read more about the changes here or read The Independent's coverage.
- Amazon IVS (the technology derived from Twitch) launched Multitrack Video to reduce input costs by up to 75%. On Twitch, this same service is called Enhanced Broadcasting.
- You can now create alerts for specific people with Twitch's Alert system.
- Ambassadors, Guild Leaders, and MeetUp Organizers were brought to the Twitch HQ in San Francisco for a Community Summit.
- Turkey fined Twitch $58,000 for the 2021 data breach.
- Mike Tyson's Punch-Out, which came out 37 years ago, was the #3 most popular streaming category on Twitch on Friday.
- Kai Cenat has taken back the Twitch subscriber record from Ironmouse. He currently has over 435,000 subscribers and two weeks left.
- Is this the adpocalypse? Not likely, but some creators, including TheStockGuy, IrisSiri129, Yusuf7n, Kaysan, and others, have witnessed lower ad revenue. TheStockGuy removed the "Election" tag from his stream, and his ad revenue returned. My best guess is Twitch removed ads from any tags that are remotely political.
π₯ YOUTUBE
- Your Shorts will now have an indicator if you have an upcoming live stream, which can activate a notification for the viewer.
- Shorts are getting a new ad format called Stickers on Shorts.
- YouTube's Jewels (bits/gifts style system) will be rolled out to US vertical livestreams over the next few weeks.
β¬ TIKTOK
- TikTok released a guide for Sports creators on how to grow on the platform.
- TikTok may launch TikTok Go for marketing/commerce and TikTok PayLater for a buy-now-pay-later business in the USA. This suggests they expect to continue operating in the country despite the active threat of a ban.
π¦ TWITTER X
- Twitter will soon be adding Theater Mode for live streams.
π© KICK
- Kick added six new guides to its Safety Hub.
- Kick reportedly offered Kai Cenat $60m just before his first subathon. Trainwrecks denies the claim, saying they offered him $22m.
π²OTHERS
- Spotify is introducing the Spotify Partner Program to appeal to more podcast creators. Partners will get a portion of ad revenue and some Premium subscriber revenue through a performance-based system for videos.
- China's current livestreaming craze combines shopping with blind box-style promotions.
