šŸ“¢ | Kai Cenat's Star-Studded Subathon, Super Chat Goals, and Twitch's New Label Draws Criticism

Hello, and welcome to November! I've made another update to the newsletter this week that hopefully will make it easier to find exactly what you may be interested in! I have several other changes coming up, so it's a great time to send me feedback if there's anything you'd like me to consider adding to the newsletter! Exciting times ahead! But with that, let's just jump right into the recap!

Platform Updates

šŸŸŖ TWITCH
  • Blocked Terms in your chat now default to showing that someone posted something held by Automod. Moderators can see Public Blocked Terms, but only the creator will see Private Blocked Terms. The usage of these terms will now be tracked in a user's chat logs. You can turn off the chat alert in your Chat Settings.
  • A new Content Classification Label for content that focuses on "Politics and Sensitive Social Issues" was introduced. Sometimes, the label is not needed (neutral fact-based education/intermittent mentions.) Read it thoroughly here. Note: Twitch does not suspend users for inaccurate labeling but does warn you if you are reported. Twitch can lock it to your channel if you fail to apply the label after repeated warnings.
  • CEO Dan Clancy says, "Hate and Harassment have no place on Twitch" in a blog post.
  • Digiday reported on Dan Clancy's current struggle to defend Twitch from claims of anti-Semitism and lack of brand safety. This provides a good overview of what's been happening.
  • Twitch CMO Mikey Minty spoke at the Brand Safety Summit.
  • The Ads Dashboard, Creator Home Headliner, and Creator Home Card now have callouts encouraging creators to run more ads.
  • A sitewide "Together for Good" charity promotion from December 3 to 15 will reward charitable giving with Chat Badges.
  • The DJ Program has a new help article discussing rules around Playing Pre-release Music.
  • A slight redesign of the Guest Star landing page was published this week.
  • According to Twitch's Brand Partnership lead, the company uses AI to create instant replays of gaming content that brands can sponsor directly.
  • Chase, who worked as a PR at Twitch before leaving in 2019, shared a thread about the platform's history with politics.
  • New Global Emote: DwightDBD.

  • Goals for Super Chats are currently being tested. You can set the number, amount, a timer, and a reward for achieving the goal.
  • YouTube Studio is getting an upgrade to introduce Community in place of Comments, an improved Audience Dashboard, and a Community Spotlight of your most engaged viewers.
