After what can only be described as a lull in Twitch-specific news over the last month, this week saw a slew of updates. We have a preview of the upcoming TikTwitch mobile update, some impactful changes to Partner Managers (and the subsequent relaunch and break up of the Partner Discords), new ad formats, and under the fold, over a dozen game keys, a bunch of streaming opps and even some paid campaigns! It's a pretty good one, I'd say - the kind you should tell a friend about. But with that, let's get into the news!
Twitch News
- Here is a preview of Twitch's mobile app overhaul, which will launch this year. It's effectively TikTok's app design but swaps the Browse/Friends position. Path of least resistance, I suppose?
- The Raid Browser experiment will be released to all creators next month.
- Twerking/Dumpy emotes are now allowed on Twitch.
- Twitch Studio, Twitch's first-party streaming software, is no longer being supported on May 30, 2024.
- Several Partners with legacy Partner Managers were informed this week that they no longer had those managers, effective immediately. Twitch is offering Partner Managers to select streamers on a 6-month basis instead. If you've been reached out to about having a new manager, please let me know!
- The Partner Discord was revamped and split into regional language-based satellites. There are now three English-language Partner Discords (NA, APAC, EMEA), as well as Spanish, Portuguese, German, French, Japanese, and Chinese.
- Half of streamers have a new incremental goal experiment that shows 25%, 50%, and 75% sub/bits/follower goals.
- Amazon Ads (and Twitch, in branding only, it seems) are building brand-supported playable worlds in Fortnite called The Glitch. It seems Twitch was an afterthought at Amazon's Upfronts.
- Based on help article changes, Twitch is no longer recycling inactive usernames.
- If you watch five minutes of a Minecraft stream from May 25 to 31st, you'll unlock an exclusive Minecraft Emote. You'll get an exclusive Chat Badge if you use that Emote in chat from the 28th to the 31st.
- Notice fewer bots in your viewer list? As of this week, the number of channels bots can sit in is limited to 100 (down from 100,000). Bots invited by the streamer (SeryBot, ButtsBot, etc.) are not impacted.
- Twitch ANZ is not currently planning to run more SubFest's for the region.
