Clips Sorting, Streamer Award Winners, TikTok Loses Case, OBS 31

As expected, the first week of December has been busy - and this week will be no exception! So, let's get right into the news.

Platform Updates

šŸŸŖ TWITCH
  • Clips will get an update to add sorting clips by date, category, and clip creator. I'm so happy this is finally happening!
  • The Clip Prompt I shared two weeks ago was released this week. It quickly annoyed many, leading to Twitch rolling it back, saying it "was released by mistake." It's a convenient excuse for a poorly thought-out product.
  • Twitch launched Shared Viewership as part of Guest Star/Shared Chat. It impacts discovery by showing the combined total in discovery surfaces. Twitch says enforcement will be strict to avoid abuse of viewership. I have my concerns I'll probably make a video about. This company will do anything to get people to use Guest Star.
  • Bloomberg reported that multiple advertisers, including JPMorgan, AT&T, and Dunkin, have stopped advertising on Twitch. The platform continues to face claims of antisemitism orchestrated by a third-party group of streamers.
  • CNN wrote about how "Streaming site is embroiled in controversy over creators' content about the handling of Israel and Palestine."
  • Kai Cenat's Subathon accounted for 4.79% of all watch hours in November. The top 337 steamers represented more Watch Hours than the Bottom ~7 million streamers combined.
  • The new Creator Club for Vtubers launched this week.
  • A new global emote features Jason Statham in a Santa Hat: WoTJason
  • A new global emote for The Streamer Awards features clapping hands: TSAClappa.
  • Twitch launched an emote called "CatintheChat," but it's been mired in controversy as it appears to be AI-generated. A UserVoice has hit over 11,000 votes calling out the platform.
šŸŸ„ YOUTUBE
  • YouTube's Gifts and Jewels system (similar to TikTok Gold/Gifts) is launching for vertical live streamers in the USA. You will need to enable it in your Earn tab.
  • YouTube released its global trends report for 2024.
  • Australia's Social Media Ban for children under 16 may exclude YouTube.
ā¬› TIKTOK
  • The Federal Appeals Court has upheld the law requiring TikTok to either divest or face a ban. This will likely go to the Supreme Court, thus delaying the ban until mid-2025. While it may be removed from app stores on January 19, if you already have it downloaded, you'll likely continue to be able to use it.
  • TikTok shared the 2024 platform trends, top songs, artists, etc.

ā¹ļø DISCORD
  • Discord is updating Discovery for servers with Invite Only, Apply to Join, and Public Discovery options.
  • Round server icons? Not much longer, as they appear to be going towards rounded squares.
