Plus Program, Hype Train Emotes, TikTok x Universal, and Razer Zephyr Fallout

As we step into May, I'd love to hear your thoughts on something. Does it feel like time is going by faster or slower than last year? I'll share the results and my perspective next week, so stay tuned!

This is related, but last year, Twitch effectively stopped the bleeding. From March through December 2023, active viewership and watch time found a bottom (after dropping consistently from mid-2021 all through 2022) and even grew in the last three months of the year. But 2024, so far, has not been kind to Twitch. April 2024 is looking to be the worst month since April 2020 (I forget what was going on then?) The reasons are likely multifaceted, including the South Korean shutdown, the increase in ads/heavy monetization focus, seasonal trends, competition (Kick has grown their hours watched by ~15% since January), and maybe-just-maybe multi-streaming is giving audiences options. It's a trend I'm keeping a close eye on and should probably turn into a YouTube video.

But with that said, let's get into this week's news!
